Tesla roadster is the first all-electric sports car to hit the
production line by the electric vehicle giant Tesla Motors, the brainchild of
Elon Musk. It was officially revealed on July 19th 2006 in San Francisco International Auto Show.
The Roadster was in
production from 2008 to 2012 during which a total of 2,400 were sold across 31
countries. The sports variant started rolling out in 2010. The roadster being
the top-notch electric vehicle also gave a neck-to-neck battle to fuel-operated
cars. It holds the World Distance Record of travelling 501 kilometer at an
average speed of 40 kmph during the Global Green Challenge in
Australia. Also, Tesla Roadster became the
first electric vehicle to win the Monte Carlo Alternative Energy Rally and also
the first to win any Federation Internationale de l'Automobile sanctioned
championship which beat 96 other competitors.
